Do you want to help struggling readers to have that "Aha!" moment?
Do you have a passion for literacy for all students?
The Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) is seeking experienced, committed education professionals to provide direct reading instruction to at-risk students. In addition to working with students, teachers may be called upon to provide adult learning opportunities including lesson demonstrations, coaching, and professional development, depending on their skill sets in those areas. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.
Desired Qualifications Alaska Initial, Professional, or Master Teacher Certification with endorsement in Reading, Reading Specialist, or;
Type B Administrator Certificate with transcripts that support completion of a State-Approved Program in reading instruction or 18 semester hours in reading instruction.
Three years of experience implementing reading intervention programs.

 Free Coding in Minecraft Courses Available to Alaska Teachers
DEED is working with Prodigy Learning to provide the following Virtual Educator Courses for Coding in Minecraft in June and July at no cost to Alaska teachers! The Virtual Educator Courses take place over three, two-hour sessions as listed below.
The courses will go over the basics of Minecraft, explore Coding in Minecraft from the perspective of the students, dive into the Coding in Minecraft portal in details, and present best practices on using the immersive program with the students.

District Grant Deadline!
The time has come to register for the upcoming Alaska School Safety & Well-Being Summit! Educational leaders, key staff, and strategic stakeholders, including representation from every district across the state, will convene to improve school safety and well-being in Alaska by both learning and sharing methods to: promote healthy development through trauma-engaged and restorative practices, improve school climate, and be better prepared for any possible school crisis.
DEED has planned the Summit to accommodate teams of up to six from each district. Each district will be provided a small travel grant to help bring in a team that may include administrators, teachers, school counselors, parents, community members, and school board members.
Districts will need to register their teams by Aug 15, 2023 in order to receive a travel grant. Please contact Sharon.fishel@alaska.gov for questions about the grants.
