Answer to Seymour's Question of the Week
✅ Answer:
If you look closely at this photo from Headwaters Forest Reserve, you will see a tall coastal redwood growing straight out of what looks like an old stump.
So what is going on?
Redwoods have a unique ability to regenerate. When the main tree is cut or damaged, it often sends out new sprouts from the base. Over time, one of those sprouts can grow into a new, full-sized tree. In fact, it is often genetically identical to the original—making it a natural clone.
This kind of regeneration is part of what makes redwood forests so resilient and enduring.
