We are still running our Stick it to Hunger food drive through the entire month of April!! Bring your donated items to our EBT/SNAP table and receive 2 RDFM stickers!
But that's not the only good news... We know you loved the Traveling Barnyard every first Saturday of the month, so now we are looking to expand our kid activities at the market by kicking off our Little Sprouts program! Every second Saturday of the month, we will be offering a different free activity for the kids; from coloring pages, seed planting, to creating their own bird feeders!
OH SNAP! Before we forget, our supplemental nutrition programs are expanding! We will now be offering DOUBLE UP OKLAHOMA (AKA DUO) this year! This program provides EBT recipients up to $20 a day to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables!
Our Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is now accepting applications! This program provides qualifying seniors with a $50 card to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables! You can apply online at https://oklac.org/ebt. You may also stop by the Rose District Farmers Market booth at the Senior Health and Resource Fair on April 28th at Central Park Community Center or call our Farmers Market Facilitator at 918-259-7000 ext 7421!

3 years ago, I lost my job in a heartless company when I gave birth to my first baby, Charley Jean. I didn’t qualify for FMLA yet and they told me I must be back within 30 days of birthing a baby or I lose my position (for those of you who haven’t had a baby, that’s physically impossible). The Covid pandemic hit 2 months after that & then in less that a month after Covid hit, we moved to Tulsa so my husband could start his schooling at OU Tulsa where he had been accepted to become a PA.
With a brand-new baby and my husband in intense schooling, all when a pandemic hit and it was impossible to find a job when I needed to support my family the most with a full time income.
“Sometimes when you’re in a dark place you think you’ve been buried, but actually you have been planted.” -Christine Caine
I decided the to start making candle in my kitchen for fun to sell to just family and friends for a little extra cash. Within 4 short months of starting, I was an actual business making a full-time income for my family!!
I spent the next 2 years, loved, supported, and encouraged by this incredible community here in Oklahoma.
Today I can look back and know that losing my job was the tiny seed being planted for my bigger purpose (& passion!) Charley Jean Candle Co. I wake up every single day so grateful for that experience. It was the BEST thing that could have happened to me and my family because without the traumatizing experience and the scary unknown of losing what I though was my dream job, Charley Jean Candle Co would not exist.
I share this because I want you to know, if you’re in a season of setback, look for the opportunities. Trust in God and take heart that this might just be the very setup that was planned for you all along. Don’t you dare throw in the towel & give up! You’ve got this!
