EPSDT: How this Health Exam Could Be Good News for Your Family.

Kids

Early and periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment (EPSDT) office visits are key to your child’s overall health.  Each year, children of all ages should be visiting with their doctor or dentist to complete a health and/or dental risk assessment.

During this visit, your child should expect to have a comprehensive exam including both physical and mental health. Your doctor may also complete routine immunizations, vision, and hearing tests.  If you are visiting your dentist you should expect an oral health exam as well as cleanings and other oral health treatments.  This is also a great time for you, as a parent, to ask questions relating to your child’s development, behavior and nutrition just to name a few. Many of these screenings are covered under your plan with no out of pocket cost to you.

For more information regarding your child’s benefits, you can refer to your Kid Care CHIP Handbook or call the 1-800 number listed on the back of your Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming insurance card.  If you have questions on your dental benefits you can call the 1-800 number listed on your Delta Dental insurance card.

Finding the Right Primary Care Provider

Kids

Kid Care CHIP recommends picking one primary care provider, someone your child or teen can see for EPSDT visits and when sick.  A primary care provider might be a physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.  Building a trusting, long term relationship with a provider will deliver a better health care experience for your family.

If you do not have a primary care provider, you are not alone. Take some time to find one that will work with your family’s needs.

1.  Look up the Kid Care CHIP preferred providers in  your area.

This page has a new look!  Visit Blue Cross Blue Shield of WY's
"Find a Provider" page.

Enter your location.

Select Kid Care CHIP next to “My Plan.”

Enter what you are looking for in the search box.  Some suggestions are: pediatrician, family medicine.

2. Ask for recommendations from friends, family and other health professionals.

3. Decide what is important to you in a primary care provider and start gathering information.

Friendly or formal?

Aggressive treatment or a ”wait and see” approach to care?

Often refers to specialists or more likely to handle things in the office?

4. Find out if the office has extra services that your family may be interested in.

Specialist

Mental Health Providers

Social Workers

It is worth the little extra time and effort to find a trusted provider who makes your child’s health a priority.

Kid Care CHIP Reauthorization

Capitol Building

You may have heard the United States Congress has not yet passed a law needed for continued federal funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).  This law covers Kid Care CHIP in Wyoming. While there is hope this law will be passed by Congress in the very near future, a delay is possible.

For Wyoming’s Kid Care CHIP families, we do not believe there is reason to be concerned about your child’s health coverage at this point. However, we want to let you know about the situation.

Your child’s coverage is secure for at least the next several months, regardless of what Congress does or does not do.  All CHIP services will remain in place including medical, dental and mental healthcare.

If you have questions concerning eligibility you may call the Customer Service Center at 855-294-2127.

To learn more about this issue on a national level visit kff.org (search CHIP).
