WSGS Publishes Annual Uranium, Oil and Gas Summary Fact Sheets

The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) has released its annual snapshot of uranium, oil, and natural gas activity in Wyoming. This year’s publication departs from the traditional report format, presenting data in concise fact sheets that allow the numbers and key points to speak for themselves.

“These fact sheets offer a more focused, at-a-glance view of Wyoming’s uranium and oil and gas industries,” says Dr. Erin Campbell, State Geologist and director of the WSGS. “We wanted to provide a straightforward update on how each sector performed in the past year, while still giving our stakeholders the essential information they need.”

Uranium

Wyoming continues to be a leader in U.S. uranium production and resource potential. The renewed national and international interest in nuclear energy—combined with higher uranium prices—has led to increased activity in the state. Notable highlights include:

  • Expansion of Existing Operations: Several uranium companies are ramping up Wyoming operations.
  • Exploration and Staffing: Companies are investing in additional exploration and boosting staffing levels to meet anticipated demand.
  • Geopolitical Influences: Ongoing global events are driving interest in domestic uranium sources, benefiting Wyoming’s uranium sector.

Oil and Natural Gas

Oil production remains a mainstay of Wyoming’s energy landscape. Despite fluctuating commodity prices, the state continues to see stable or modestly increasing oil output. Meanwhile, natural gas follows a more complex trend:

  • Oil Production: Current production volumes suggest Wyoming’s oil sector remains resilient, supported by a diverse range of operators and fields.
  • Natural Gas: New drilling for gas has slowed, reflecting broader market pressures. As a result, statewide natural gas production continues a measured decline.

Fact Sheet Highlights

Each fact sheet delves into critical metrics and trends, covering:

  • Production Figures: Annual production totals and year-over-year changes.
  • Economic Indicators: Prices, employment, and investment levels.

“At the WSGS, we’re committed to offering timely, authoritative, and accessible data to inform decisions,” Dr. Campbell says. “We hope these concise summaries help everyone from industry leaders to policymakers—and the general public—quickly understand where Wyoming’s energy sector stands and where it’s headed.”

Both fact sheets are available as free downloads on the WSGS website (Uranium Summary) (Oil & Gas Summary).
