Earth Science Week Toolkits Available to Wyoming Classrooms

The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) is once again offering toolkits to junior high school classrooms statewide in celebration of Earth Science Week Oct. 13–19.

The American Geoscience Institute (AGI), which has held Earth Science Week every October since 1998, provides 50 complimentary toolkits to the WSGS to distribute to Wyoming teachers on a first come, first serve basis. Toolkits include learning activities, posters, fact sheets, and a calendar. Additionally, there are resources from organizations such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Park Service, Soil Science Society of America, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Topics range from mineral science, to dinosaurs, to seismology, and earthquakes.

"Getting an early start on an understanding of earth sciences has lifelong benefits for students and for Wyoming," says WSGS Director, Dr. Erin Campbell. "The AGI’s donation of toolkits is a generous gift, and it allows the WSGS to provide earth science educational resources to classrooms at no cost to schools or teachers."

This year’s Earth Science Week theme is “Geoscience is for Everyone,” and emphasizes both the inclusive potential and the importance of the geosciences in the lives of all people. More information about Earth Science Week can be found on the AGI’s website.

To request one of the 50 complimentary toolkits, teachers can contact Christina George at christina.george@wyo.gov. Toolkits can also be purchased on the AGI’s website.
