Wyoming was well represented at the National Governors Association (NGA) Summer Workforce Symposium in Oklahoma City earlier this month with Wyoming Workforce Development Council (WWDC) Chair Fabian Lobera, Vice Chair Eric Trowbridge, and Liaison Jennifer Wilch in attendance. Hosted as part of the NGA’s Workforce Development and Technical Assistance Program, the symposium was a joint conference for members of the National Association of State Workforce Board Chairs and the National Association of State Liaisons for Workforce Development Partnerships, two affiliate networks of the NGA Center.
"Collaborating with our peers in workforce development across the nation was a valuable experience that allowed us the opportunity to hear what other states are doing to meet the challenges of the modern environment," reports WWDC Chairman Lobera. "While there were some highlighted best practices being employed elsewhere that we were able to bring back with us, I was emboldened by the positive responses from other states regarding the actions that Wyoming is taking to further develop its workforce. There is no definitive book written on how to ensure that our workforce meets employers’ and workers’ needs in Wyoming, or any other state. However, our approach in Wyoming to bring all of the relevant players from industry, education and government to the table to craft a workforce system that uniquely meets the needs of both Wyoming residents and industries has us on the right path."

The Wyoming Workforce Development Council is composed of leaders from across the state, selected by the governor to advise the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services and its 18 full-service workforce centers, as well as to align employment and training programs. Members of the WWDC bring unique experience and expertise to the group, from fields including business and industry, organized labor, state legislature, education, social service agencies, and others that have a stake in employment and training issues. The WWDC identifies workforce challenges, fosters collaboration, and creates opportunities for Wyoming residents.
Together, we are leading workforce innovation today, to build a stronger tomorrow.
