Summer Food Service & SUN Bucks
The Summer Food Service Program (SUN Meals) and SUN Bucks are complementary; they are different programs with the same goal: feeding children nutritious meals during the summer months.
SUN Meals are a site-based nutrition program administered by the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE). Children can go to specific locations at certain hours and days of the week to eat or pick up a meal. Not all counties have a summer feeding site available. Some sites have limited hours of operation or are only open for a few weeks each summer. Visit this map or call 211 to find the summer feeding site closest to you this summer.
SUN Bucks is a child-based nutrition program administered by the Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS). Eligible children receive a $120 food benefit for the summer. Families can shop for food at their preferred time and location using an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card, similar to a debit card.
SUN Meals provide children an opportunity to socialize while they eat. SUN Bucks provides flexibility and choice of where and when to shop, especially for rural families who may be unable to travel to a summer feeding site. Children can use both programs - SUN Meals and SUN Bucks - to fill their plates with nutritious meals this summer.
Staff from both programs presented information at the Community Family Support Forum call on May 8th 2026; you can watch the recording at this link and view the slides under “Monthly Calls” on the Community Family Support Forum web page.
Remember!
Summer feeding sites and SUN Bucks are different, but complementary programs. Eligible children can use one or the other, both, or neither program - it is entirely the family’s choice!
