Eligibility and Total Food Benefit Estimates
Student Eligibility for SUN Bucks
SUN Bucks eligibility is most similar to the National School Lunch Program for free and reduced price meals. The U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics estimates 31,862 of the 92,285, or 1 in 3 public school students enrolled in Wyoming were eligible for free and reduced price meals in the 2022-2023 school year (the most recent year for which data is available).
Total Food Benefit Estimate
SUN Bucks is a seasonal summer food benefit. The benefit amount is set by the federal government and adjusted annually for inflation. For summer 2026, each approved child will receive a one-time, $120 food benefit. Now for the math:
32,000 = estimated number of children eligible
$120 = benefit amount per child
32,000 X $120 = $3,840,000
in expected food benefits statewide for summer 2026.
