Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality Extended Comment Period: Notice of Proposed Underground Injection Control Permit
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program regulates certain discharges of pollutants into groundwaters of the state. Operators of these discharges are required to receive coverage under a UIC permit. The purpose of this notification is to inform the public that the UIC Program is proposing the renewal of a permit (Permit 10-012) for Grand Teton National Park, Gros Ventre Campground septic system. The UIC program proposes to renew the injection well permit for this facility. The permit applicant is the National Park Service, P.O. Box 170, Moose, WY, 83012. The Gros Ventre Campground Septic System is located in the SE ¼ NW ¼, SW ¼ NW ¼, NW ¼ SW ¼, of Section 9, and the NE ¼ SE ¼, SW ¼ SE ¼, and the SE ¼ SW ¼, of Section 8, Township 42 North, Range 115 West, of the 6th Principal Meridian, Teton County, Wyoming. This system injects domestic waste from 338 RV sites, 12 comfort stations, a campground office, an amphitheater, and an RV septic dump station into the alluvial aquifer along the Gros Ventre River.
The public comment period began on March 22, 2023, and has been extended to May 12, 2023. Electronic copies of the proposed permit and relevant application materials are available for review.
During the extended public comment period, any interested person may submit written comments on the proposed permit and may request a public hearing be held. Electronic comments may only be submitted through and accepted by the WDEQ comment portal provided at http://wq.wyomingdeq.commentinput.com/.
Requests for public hearings on permit applications or modifications must be made in writing to the administrator and shall state the reasons for the request. Requests for public hearings on permit issuance, denial, revocation, termination, or any other department action appealable to the Council, shall be made in writing to the Chairman of the Environmental Quality Council (Chairman, Wyoming Environmental Quality Council, 2300 Capitol Ave., Hathaway Bldg. 1st, Room 136, Cheyenne, WY 82002) and the WDEQ Director (Director, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, 200 West 17th Street, 4th Floor, Cheyenne, WY 82002) and state the grounds for the request. The Council shall hold hearings pursuant to the WDEQ Rules of Practice and Procedure.
All written comments and requests received prior to 5:00 P.M, May 12, 2023 in the Cheyenne office will be considered. Electronic comments may be submitted to the link identified above.
