Public Notice: LQD Advisory Board Meeting - June 23, 2022

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Land Quality Division (LQD), will hold an Advisory Board (AB) Meeting beginning at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 23, 2022.  The meeting will be held via conference call.  The major item of discussion will be a presentation to scope revisions to Noncoal Chapter 2 that includes provisions for the use of inert materials as backfill at noncoal mine sites and revisions to Coal Chapter 11 and Noncoal Chapter 6 that includes provisions for voluntary irrevocable assigned trusts to be used as a new type of acceptable bond instrument for reclamation purposes. The proposed revisions were drafted in response new legislation contained in HB0123 and HB0045 that were passed during the 2022 legislative session. The LQD will be seeking comments and input on the proposed rules to continue developing the draft rules before seeking a recommendation to proceed to formal rulemaking at a later Advisory Board meeting.
