Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality Visits Meadowlark Elementary School in Cheyenne

On May 30, 2018, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) staff presented an Air Quality Awareness Month educational curriculum to nearly 300 fifth graders at Meadowlark Elementary School in Cheyenne.

Meadowlark students rotated to several different, interactive educational stations, where DEQ staff members presented on a variety of topics including what air pollution is, how air pollution can form, why we regulate air pollution, how we monitor our ambient air for pollution (including a tour of the Cheyenne NCore Monitoring Station), and other activities encouraging environmental awareness.

DEQ has compiled a highlight video of its outreach efforts at Meadowlark Elementary, which can be viewed at the following link: https://youtu.be/uRIE60ur4RY.

The visit to Meadowlark marked the culmination of a month-long outreach campaign in which DEQ visited over 400 fifth graders at three different elementary schools in Cheyenne, as well as sending weekly informative email messages about air quality to all State of Wyoming employees and undertaking other outreach activities.

2018 was the third consecutive year in which Wyoming DEQ has participated in Air Quality Awareness Week/Air Quality Awareness month outreach activities.
