The New WIDA Screener for Kindergarten Field Test Study is well underway. Information to some of the most commonly asked questions from districts related to participation in the field study is found below.
- The purpose of the Field Study is to gather baseline data to establish proficiency level criteria for the New K Screener, which will eventually replace the KW-APT. The Field Study will continue through the end of the 2021-22 School Year.
-
Participation: All districts are required to participate in the Field Study. The screener is only for English Learners who qualify for the current screeners (MODEL and KW-APT). Districts should administer the New WIDA Screener to 50% or more of grade K students who qualify for the screener.
- The KW-APT or K MODEL Assessment Screener is still required and must be administered to those who qualify for accountability purposes.
-
New Screener Training: The training is in the WIDA Secure Portal. Go to the "Screener Test Materials and Training" section. See "WIDA Screener for Kindergarten." This is the formal name, and it does not have the word "new" in it. Note that you must complete the training before you administer the screener. If you don’t see the training listed, then you may not be identified in the system with screener privileges.
-
Results: Districts will enter student results from the WIDA Screener for Kindergarten Score Sheets onto the WDE Excel Spreadsheet as tests are completed. The completed WDE Excel Spreadsheet should be deposited into the District Folder, which was previously shared by email to all district EL Coordinators.
From 3:30-5:30 p.m. MDT on May 18, 2021

ACCESS Reports Online Will be Released on May 24, 2021
ACCESS for ELLs scores should be shared when available and in a timely manner. Individual Student Reports (ISR) provide a detailed report of a single student’s performance, including proficiency level and scale scores for each language domain and four composite areas.
Share with:
- Students to set language goals.
- Parents and guardians as part of discussions around student progress and achievement.
- Teachers to inform individualized classroom instruction and assessment.
For more information on understanding and using student scores and score reports, refer to the Interpretive Guides for Score Reports. Resources for sharing scores are available on the Family Engagement Page of the WIDA website. Translations of the Individual Student Report are available in the following languages in WIDA AMS. Translated reports should always accompany and not replace official reports in English.
