Reading Supports For Multilingual Learners 

(6 modules, 15 weeks) October 5, 2020 - January 29, 2021

Participants will have two weeks to complete each module which focus on the following Guiding Questions:

• Module 1: What is different about teaching reading in English to bilingual students? 
• Module 2: How can I use co-constructed texts to help my bilingual learners read texts with confidence? 
• Module 3: How can Shared Reading help bilingual learners read and comprehend texts in English? 
• Module 4: How do patterned texts help bilingual learners read and produce sophisticated, fluent text? 
• Module 5: How can I help my bilingual learners develop a deep curiosity for the way language works? 
• Module 6: Answer the Essential Question.

Students Can Take Practice Tests and Become Familiar with the Features and Tools on the Testing Platform. 

Resources are available to prepare students for the ACCESS for ELLs assessments by giving students the opportunity to learn about the test platform. Information and resources on test demos, test practice, and sample items for ACCESS Online and ACCESS Paper, for grades 1-12, have been moved to a dedicated webpage for ACCESS Test Practice and Sample Items. Test administrators will also find a new guide on how to use these resources to prepare students for testing. Educators who will administer ACCESS for ELLs Paper for grades 1-12 this year can find an expanded selection of sample items, as well as a guide on using the sample items with students.

Week 3 - Final Week

During the final week of the WIDA eSummit, assessment experts will walk attendees through the intended uses of ACCESS for ELLs, WIDA Screener, and WIDA MODEL. Attendees will be introduced to the newest member of the WIDA Screener family, WIDA Screener for Kindergarten, and uncover all that WIDA MODEL has to offer as a tool that can be used throughout the school year to measure English language development and growth.

Sessions include:

• October 26: Using WIDA Assessments Appropriately: ACCESS for ELLs, WIDA Screener, and WIDA MODEL.
• October 28: Introducing the New WIDA Screener for Kindergarten.
• October 30: WIDA MODEL: Learn More About Your Students’ English Language Skills.

Educators will be able to access the live virtual sessions through the eLearning Center in the WIDA Secure Portal. Attendees must have a WIDA Secure Portal Account.
