WY-TOPP ANNOUNCEMENTS

The new AIR assessment system will now include additional interim assessments for K-2. During the 2017-2018 school year, K-2 will have an optional Winter Interim (January 16 - February 9) and an optional Spring Interim (April 16 - May 11). Please see the WDE webpage for the updated assessment calendar.

CONFIDENTIAL STUDENT LEVEL RESULTS

The Wyoming Department of Education confidentially released results from the 2017 ACT, Aspire, and Grade 11 Wy-ALT assessments to school districts on Monday, July 31. School districts will have until Friday, August 11 to review the reports. District Superintendents need to verify online that they have received and reviewed the data. Please see this Superintendents Memo for further instructions.

CHANGES TO EL SCREENING

Students must score a 4.5 or higher on the new WIDA Screener to be considered proficient. Because the WIDA Screener only reports scores in increments of 0.5, this is the closest score to the state exit criteria of 4.6. Entrance criteria have not changed for the W-APT or MODEL because they are aligned with the old proficiency level scale.

For a summary of changes to EL screening for the 2017-2018 school year, please view the 2017-2018 EL Screening Summary.

As of August 1, the online version of the WIDA Screener became live on the AMS system and is now available for use. WIDA and DRC sent out a letter to District Test Coordinators as well as Technology Coordinators summarizing key information about the WIDA Screener for these roles. This should have been received most likely on Monday, July 31 or Tuesday, August 1. If you should have received this letter but did not, please contact Will Woods (will.woods@wyo.gov).

As a reminder, on-demand online training is available on the WIDA website for the online and paper version of the WIDA Screener. For information about in-person training for the online version, please see the section below.

SAVE THE DATE: WIDA SCREENER TRAINING

There are two options for a one-day in-person training for the new WIDA Online Screener. The confirmed dates are September 19th and 21st with one training tentatively slotted to take place in the Casper area and the other in the Rock Springs/Green River area. As with all WIDA trainings/PDs, there will be no registration cost. These trainings will only cover the Online version and not the Paper version.
