Congratulations to a 6th grade student from Anderson Elementary School in Laramie County School District #1 for winning the Name the New Assessment Contest! WDE would like to thank all participants for their submissions. Contest submissions ranged from individual student submissions to classroom submissions. The name of the new Wyoming state assessment is WY-TOPP, Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress. Click here for the press release.

We encourage you to read the preliminary information on our State Assessment System webpage. We are still in contract negotiations with American Institute for Research (AIR) for the Gr. 1-10 assessments. Specific details regarding the new assessment will be messaged to you when they become available. We have the dates for the 2017-2018 administration.

WDE and WIDA have organized a 3-day Trainer of Trainers Professional Learning Retreat in Laramie, WY from June 6-8. We encourage district level EL coordinators, Instructional Facilitators, and Teacher Leads to attend the training*.

The WIDA Professional Learning Retreat is an interactive workshop that is based on a student-centered, teacher-focused approach to engage participants in a variety of facilitation techniques that they can replicate for educators of ELLs to better understand academic language development.
Melissa Paton from WIDA, will facilitate the Learning Retreat and she has been very well received in the past and has done many of the past PDs in Wyoming. District staff in Jackson also felt it was a worthwhile opportunity when they had the retreat in their area.
You will receive PTSB renewal credit for attending the retreat.
