CTE SPOTLIGHT: PATHWAYS - THE ACADEMIES OF NATRONA COUNTY

Congratulations to NCSD #1 Pathways Innovation Center (PIC)! The PIC welcomed students,mentors,community partners,and trustees in September 2016. Four academies offer multiple pathways that allow students to develop career and college skills through personalized learning. Pathways Innovation Center in Casper is a superb example of innovation, collaboration and out of the box thinking.

The WDE will be hosting training summits for Perkins and CTE in Cheyenne and Riverton Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.

All Wyoming schools are encouraged to participate in Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week December 5-11, 2016. All participating schools will receive a participation certificate signed by the Governor and State Superintendent.

CTE Makeover Challenge has MakerSpace activities and an announcement for an upcoming challenge that schools can compete to win $20,000 for their school.  


AGRICULTURE

SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS NEEDED

 

The Wyoming Department of Education is seeking subject matter experts to form five to seven teams for Career and Technical Education (CTE) assessment reviews in order to measure technical skill attainment in the following CTE program areas: 

  • Manufacturing Welding
  • Technical Drafting 
  • Commercial-Residential Carpentry
  • Cabinetmaking & Woodworking 
  • Architectural Drafting 
  • Agricultural Mechanics
  • Agricultural General. 

Each subject matter expert will receive a $500.00 stipend for his/her participation.

Career Development Facilitator Course Registration Opens

This is a 120-hour blended format training, running from June 11, 2017 - August 11, 2017, is geared for school staff, counselors, administrators and teachers whose roles will be to coordinate career guidance and exploration programming in their respective schools.

Registration deadline is June 9, 2017. More information and course registration can be found here

ECHO in Career Development starts January, 2017

The UW ECHO in Career Development will target career development professionals working in P-16 local education agencies and other community partners working to support and assist students in making informed career and academic decisions.

Global Education Allies Trip to Finland

Oksana Wasilik, faculty member at UW Casper, is planning to explore the education system in Finland in 2017 and is building a team of other Wyoming educators (preservice, inservice, administrators, etc.) to join her.
