Nominations Sought for Assessment Policy Advisory Committee

Working group

Last year's Assessment Task Force designed a framework for a new statewide assessment system that will be implemented in the 2017-18 school year.

To ensure our new system is responsive to the needs/interests of staff in the field, the WDE Assessment Team is creating a Policy Advisory Committee (PAC).  The PAC will complement the activities of our long-standing Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The TAC will continue its role of reviewing the psychometric nuts and bolts of our state's assessment system; the new PAC will offer counsel on all sorts of topics, including (but not limited to) reporting, teacher involvement, and professional development.

Because the state assessment system touches individuals in various roles, the super-PAC needs representation from schools (teachers and principals) and districts (curriculum and assessment coordinators as well as superintendents).

The first topic to be addressed by the PAC is fundamental to the rest of the work, and is not for the faint of heart. Members of the PAC will serve as reviewers/raters of the proposals we receive this fall in response to the RFPs for statewide assessment.   Please email name, phone and email address, and role in your district (if your nominee is a teacher, please specify the grade level s/he teaches currently) to Deb Lindsey (deb.lindsey@wyo.gov) no later than July 29th for consideration.

2017 NAEP Assessment Dates: Principals, Please Mark Your Calendars!

Notification letters to elementary and middle school principals specifying the 2017 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) testing day at their building(s) will be sent via regular mail and electronically later this month.

Principals are asked to please immediately mark their school’s 2017 NAEP date on their school’s calendar, and if needed contact Will Donkersgoed as soon as possible at william.donkersgoed@wyo.gov or (307) 777-5133 re: any scheduling conflicts or date change requests.

As a reminder, the 2017 NAEP window opens Monday January 30, 2017 and runs through Friday March 10, 2017. Earlier in June, State Superintendent Balow notified district superintendents and assessment directors about the 2017 NAEP program and schools in their district selected for the assessment.

As a heads-up, additional information for registering schools online will be sent to principals in early August….and please stay tuned to the WDE Assessment Newsletter for additional details re: 2017 NAEP in Wyoming.  Thank you!
