June 15 - July 10 in West Virginia
Applications must be electronically submitted by 6:00 pm EST on Wednesday, March 2nd.
Two WY H.S. seniors will receive a full scholarship to attend this once-in-a-lifetime experience which includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation, overnight camping trips into the Monongahela National Forest, and a visit to Washington D.C. The selected delegates must not only demonstrate academic achievement in mathematics and science, but also show potential for thoughtful leadership and community involvement. They must also intend to pursue higher education and a career in a STEM related field.
The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants. Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip air passage. Delegates must be able to participate in the entire NYSC program.

Just in Time: Excellence in ESL Teaching Conference

The University of Wyoming’s College of Education and the Partnership are proud to present the first state-level English as a second language (ESL) conference in Wyoming. Registration is free but required.

February 27-28, 2016 in Cheyenne
The Wyoming Art Education Association would like to invite superintendents and art educators in their districts to attend the WYAEA Spring Conference at Triumph High School in Cheyenne on February 27-28, 2016. WYAEA is excited to announce that Zak Pullen, Wyoming's own award-winning illustrator, will be the keynote speaker. The keynote presentation is free and open to the public on February 27 at 10 a.m. Additionally, Zak will be part of a panel discussion Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The conference will include workshops on a variety of topics, including STEAM, Arts Integration, Museum Education, Managing Difficult Behaviors in the Art Room, and many others. PTSB and UW graduate credit will be available.

The Science Standards Review Committee met Feb. 5-6 to finalize their review of the proposed science standards documents. The committee's work will be shared with the State Board of Education at their March 17-18 meeting in Hulett. We will keep you posted with future updates.

APPLICATION DEADLINE – May 10, 2016
The Douvas Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who are first-generation Americans and are attending one of the seven Wyoming community colleges or the University of Wyoming. One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded. The scholarship awardee will be notified either by email or telephone.

March 7-8, 2016 in Cheyenne
Please come out to support the participating Wyoming schools in this year's POL Competition: Kaycee High School, Western Heritage Lutheran Academy (Riverton), Sundance Secondary School, Summit High School (Jackson), Star Lane Center (Casper), Worland High School, Upton High School, Fort Washakie High School, and Buffalo High School.

The competition will be held at the Atlas Theatre on March 7th at 7 pm. Each school champion will recite 3 poems. Superintendent Jillian Balow, Matt Daly (Wyoming poet), Adrian Molina (Colorado poet), and A. Rose Hill (Wyoming’s Poet Laureate) will judge this year’s competition. Superintendent Balow will present the winners on March 8th in the lobby of the Barrett Building at 10:30 am. The competition and the awards ceremony are open to the public and free to attend.

Casper College is proud to host the 31st annual Humanities Festival. Local and national scholars in the humanities — such as music, sociology, film, literature, theater, and history — will present on the theme "Redemption" and encourage a dialogue with attendees in one-hour sessions. The festival sessions are free and open to the public. Continuing education credits and PTSB credits are available for attendees.

The Wyoming Department of Education is providing a free two-day professional development opportunity April 18-19 in Casper and April 21-22 in Jackson for any educator who works with English Learners.
The WIDA Collaboration workshop provides an overview of collaborative methods and models for planning, instruction, and assessment of ELs using the WIDA ELD Standards. It is designed for teams, teacher pairs, or instructional coaches. Teams will leave with a developing plan for collaboration at their site around the needs of their EL students.
WIDA CLIMBS COURSE: Build Capacity, Increase Collaboration, Improve ELL Education
July 12-14, 2016 - Madison, WI
The Wyoming Department of Education is providing the opportunity for a three-day WIDA professional development course in Madison, WI. The CLIMBS (Content and Language Integration as a Means of Bridging Success) course offers a leadership opportunity for educators interested in a sustained approach to building capacity and increasing collaboration at the local level.
This training is offered by application only and is supported with Federal Title II-A funding via a grant award.

The Wyoming Department of Education is offering Phase II Assessment
Literacy professional development (PD), provided by Jan Hoegh
of Marzano Research, LLC.
Phase II begins in March. The first two-day session is a repeat of the
foundational work provided last year. The rest of the sessions are
divided by grade level and content areas, and districts and/or schools are
encouraged to bring teams to participate in the hands-on development of
proficiency scales.
Registration is free and lunch is
provided. Participation is limited to the first 100 registrants for each
session.
