Dear Friends,

I hope everyone had a fantastic Fourth of July celebrating our nation’s birthday and honoring our Veterans, whether your holiday included serving our travelers or spending time with family and friends. I had a blast as a trumpet soloist performing with the Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra at each city’s Independence Day celebration.

During the July 4th week, we ran Travel Wisconsin Snapchat geo-filters throughout Wisconsin.  The results were outstanding.   The filters were used more than 400,000 times and produced 14 million impressions.  Vanessa Grimaldi, fiancée of The Bachelor and Waukesha native Nick Viall, used the filter, which was seen by her 1.5 million followers.

We’re thrilled that our Facebook Live broadcast from Summerfest topped 1 million views and received nearly 9,500 reactions, comments and shares. This was the first time we produced a livestream event of this magnitude. The broadcast kicked off the 50th edition of the World’s Largest Music Festival with special guests Governor Walker, Wayne Larrivee and country music star Frankie Ballard who shared their favorite Summerfest traditions and memories.  Also, two pre-produced videos showcased some Summerfest “Super Fans” and Miller Brewing Company.  The 20-minute broadcast ended with a performance from the Milwaukee-based band Eagle Trace and the Big Bang Fireworks.  If you missed it, you can still watch it online.

Last week, Governor Walker declared a State of Emergency for Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties following storms that caused severe flooding and road closures.  He also called in the Wisconsin National Guard to assist those affected by the damage.

Summerfest Celebrates Half Century Milestone

Hat’s off to Summerfest, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary.  The World’s Largest Music Festival continues to improve with age with this year’s debut of the new Miller Lite Oasis stage and Summerfest retail store.  The upgrades don’t end there.  Milwaukee World Festival Inc. has plans to rebuild the main stage. The new American Family Insurance Amphitheater will open in 2020 and a complete rebuild of the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage will be ready for the 2018 festival. To promote the 50th edition of Summerfest, Travel Wisconsin aired a live Facebook broadcast, which has topped over 1 million views.
