Thankful for a Great Fall Season

Thankful for a Great Fall Season
Secretary's Message Header

Dear Friends,

After the fall leaves hit the ground and before winter starts knocking on our door, Wisconsin’s time-honored hunting season gets people traveling around the state.  I had the honor of being crowned the Venison Queen at last year’s 50th annual Venison Feed in Tomahawk.  This year, I gave up my antler tiara to DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp.  It was a fun event to generate awareness of this important tradition and its impact on our tourism.  Plus, the event includes all the free venison burgers you can eat.

We had a record-breaking turnout at the Governor’s Northern Wisconsin Economic Development Summit this month.  It was fantastic to see so many of our tourism partners at the event.  The summit was followed by a Cabinet on the Road tour, where I had the pleasure of meeting with people in the cities of Shawano and Merrill and seeing everything they are doing to deliver fun travel experiences.

It was my privilege to present the Department’s efforts to promote Native American tourism during our annual Tribal Consultation.  One of our hallmark projects this year was the development of the Real Fun: Our Wisconsin Native American Adventure Story video.  Launched in conjunction with National Native American Heritage Month, the video follows the real life journey of a family visiting their first Pow-Wow and experiencing the state’s rich Native American culture.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and as we head into the holiday season, it’s always a good time to reflect on what we are grateful for and the many blessings we have in our lives.  I’m grateful for you and the incredible work you do showcasing Wisconsin at its very best.  What a joy it is to promote the most beautiful state in America.

Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving,
