In Remembrance

Secretary's Message Header

Hello Friends,

Earlier this month, Wisconsin’s tourism industry lost a very special colleague, friend and all-around great guy, Patrick Reinsma, our Southwest Regional Tourism Specialist.  There are no words to describe the great loss to our close-knit tourism family and the many, many people in the industry that had the opportunity to work with him.   Patrick loved this state and had a great passion for his job.  We will all remember him as a truly unique, funny, genuine, smart and caring life-force.

On behalf of Patrick’s family, I want to thank all of our tourism partners for your outpouring of love and support.  From emails and phone calls, to kind words at his funeral, Patrick’s family was touched when they saw the impact he had on the people he worked with.

Patrick Scholarship

The WI Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (WACVB) is continuing his legacy with the Patrick Reinsma Memorial Scholarship at the Waukesha County Technical College Hospitality Management Program through the College's Foundation.  Patrick was a native of Waukesha and he would be honored that a student pursuing a career in the industry he loved would receive a scholarship in his name.  Our Southwest Wisconsin tourism partners are creating a memorial in his memory  in the region he loved so much and worked so hard to support and nurture.

While we grieve this great loss, we know that Patrick would want us to carry on and continue to look after the people in his region.  Shelly Harkins, Director of the Bureau of Industry & Agency Services, is available for those needing assistance.  She can be reached at and 608-266-7933.

Wisconsin Tourism Takes Supper Clubs on the Road

One of Wisconsin’s oldest culinary traditions is hitting the road this summer thanks to Neesvig’s, Inc. and Empire Fish. The Department partnered with the Wisconsin-based food service company to display its supper club ad campaign on 16 trucks that will deliver food products to six states throughout the Midwest – that’s more than 112 million impressions by travelers alone!
