Hello Friends,

What a fantastic tourism week.  Or as I’m calling it, “tourism weeks,” because the events and positive media coverage have lasted nearly three weeks! It is a credit to all of you, your community and media outreach that had such a positive impact.  Kudos to our tourism partners in Eau Claire, Milwaukee, Kendall and Green Bay for acting so quickly to put together media events for the Governor.  Each one was a well-attended and smashing success.  Again, congratulations and thanks to all of you!

The Governor’s Fishing Opener was another event that rolled into the tourism week festivities.  I presented our latest ad campaign to this important stakeholder group, which brings more than 330,000 nonresident anglers to our state each year.

Secretary and Governor

Last week, we had our quarterly Governor’s Council on Tourism meeting in Door County along with a very special Walk with Walker at Peninsula State Park.  It was a time to celebrate as First Lady Tonette Walker hosted her 50th walk as part of her initiative to highlight tourism and a lifestyle of wellness.

I recently had the pleasure of touring The Highground Veterans Memorial Park in Neillsville. It is probably one of the most moving displays devoted to the sacrifices of Wisconsin’s service men and women that I had honor to experience. In light of next week’s Memorial Day, I encourage you to make a special trip to The Highground if you are ever in the area.

As we head into the unofficial kick-off to summer, everyone at Team Tourism sends you our best wishes for another successful travel season!
