Treasurer Godlewski & County Treasurers: Federal Funding Needed for Essential Workers |
MADISON, Wis. - State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski urged the Wisconsin Congressional delegation to take quick action in passing additional and flexible federal funding for the state and local governments in a letter released this morning. The Wisconsin County Treasurers Association joined Godlewski in signing the letter to address the looming impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on communities across the state. With a recent spike in positive cases reported this week, ensuring communities have the resources necessary to respond continues to be a priority. “Firefighters, EMTs, teachers, and other public servants are the lifelines in their communities,” said Treasurer Sarah Godlewski. “Without additional federal support, Wisconsin and our local governments will not be able to address the unforeseen financial challenges this pandemic has caused. It will come at the cost of essential services people are relying on, now more than ever.” Just like families across Wisconsin, state and local governments are taking proactive steps to cut their budgets and utilize rainy day funds. However, the severity of this crisis is worse than the Great Recession and requires additional support from the federal government to ensure our communities are safe and healthy. The letter outlines the need for additional federal aid which is flexible and addresses the needs of all Wisconsin communities. A copy of the letter can be found here. In addition to this letter, Treasurer Godlewski will be hosting a call with Senator Baldwin with local leaders to further illustrate the urgent need for funding on Wednesday. Call participants will address what they are seeing on the front lines and the importance of additional federal aid. What: Call for Federal Aid for Wisconsin Communities with Treasurer Godlewski, U.
