Manufacturing Explosion

The western WI company that makes everything from IHOP
syrup bottles to chest spreaders for babies having heart surgeries is tripling
in size. At iMark, I announced the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation
would help this mega-expansion (and hiring of 40 more people) in little
Woodville, WI.
That big thing behind me is the coating machine! Click on the photo for more on the coating machine dedication.
I also helped dedicate the largest paper coating
machine I have ever seen in Rhinelander at Expera. Yesterday I congratulated
this Wisconsin paper company on the machine- making it one of only two
companies in the world that make a coated paper (kind of like fruit rollup
paper)- that aviation companies use to lay down layers of carbon fiber (like
the fruit rollup) to form plane wings!
Surprising STEM Numbers

I know this photo doesn't really
say "new welding, computer numeric machining, woodworking, auto, Project
Lead the Way engineering and math areas built here" But at
Germantown High School, that's what happening. Here, the VP of the school board
is sharing with me their plan to recruit new businesses to hire Germantown
students as interns and apprentices, invest in their school and help craft
their curriculum so students are uniquely prepared to take local jobs.
When it comes to STEM (science,
technology, engineering, math) students pursuing STEM jobs, though, I spoke at
UW-Green Bay this week about a talent mismatch. According to the federal Bureau
of Labor Statistics, there is an excess of STEM grads pursuing careers in
academia and too few pursuing careers in the private and government STEM
sectors. One additional concerning stat from BLS: 74% of STEM Bachelors Degree
holders are not employed in STEM careers.
Every Day Veterans Day

I routinely say Wisconsin is the best state in the
nation for vets. I got to thank our veterans on Monday with a lunch in
Watertown. These men and women have a deep respect for their flag and the
freedom it represents. God bless these brave heroes- and God protect those
serving, protecting us today!
Forward,
 Rebecca Kleefisch Lt. Governor
