Wisconsin's Reform Dividend: Historic K-12 Investment and Lower Property Taxes
We know that today’s
students are Wisconsin’s future leaders, that’s why our new 2017-19 state
budget invests more money in K-12 education, $11.5 billion, than ever before in
Wisconsin’s history. And, as promised, we do it all while cutting property
taxes for homeowners across the state.
Our successful common
sense, forward-thinking budget reforms have led to a stronger economy and a
healthier budget outlook. We call this the Reform Dividend, and, after
listening to families and hardworking taxpayers across Wisconsin, we’re
investing this dividend in our priorities and our future.
Every child deserves access
to a great education that provides them with the skills and knowledge they need
to be successful in college, career, and life. This budget’s historic
investment in education helps make that dream a reality for Wisconsin’s
students.
We’re also increasing
support for broadband access and raising our investments in tech colleges and
the UW System to ensure Wisconsin maintains the highly skilled, dependable
workforce we’re known for.
We are working and winning
for Wisconsin.
Moving Our Economy Forward at the Seventh Annual Small Business Summit
Earlier this week, I joined Wisconsin small business owners, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, and
cabinet secretaries for the seventh annual Governor’s Small Business Summit.
The Summit is a great
opportunity for small business owners to network with each other, expand their
markets, meet new suppliers and distributors, and engage with government
leaders to encourage growth and keep Wisconsin’s economy strong and moving
forward.
Our small businesses
are at the core of Wisconsin’s economy, so it’s critical we listen to and
address business leaders’ concerns to make sure they have the tools they need
to succeed.
Youth Apprenticeship Day: Supporting Student Success and Workforce Development
In our recently signed
budget, we make investments in our future workforce while creating new jobs for
them right here in Wisconsin.
On September 26th,
we celebrated Youth Apprenticeship Day in schools across Wisconsin, highlighting
the expanded Youth Apprenticeship Program and its tremendous effect on
Wisconsin’s high school students.
In the program, students
pair up with a mentor from local businesses and receive hands-on instruction in
learning about fields as diverse as agriculture, finance, art, health science,
architecture, and many more.
Through youth
apprenticeship, students gain the skills they need to excel in the modern
workforce.
I’m proud to celebrate
Youth Apprenticeship Day and support our students’ continued success.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
