Wisconn Valley: Made in America, Right Here in Wisconsin
Earlier this week, I proudly signed the bipartisan Wisconn
Valley Special Session Bill into law, setting the stage for Foxconn to invest a
historic $10 billion in constructing a state of the art manufacturing facility
and employing over 13,000 Wisconsin workers at an average salary of $53,875
plus benefits.
Foxconn is a transformational opportunity for our
state, our people, and our economy, with benefits flowing out to every corner
of Wisconsin.
On top of the 13,000 high-tech manufacturing jobs, the
project will also support 10,000 construction jobs over each of the next four
years, as well as 22,000 more indirect and induced jobs to be created
throughout the state.
Additionally, a report released by a UW-Madison
economist predicts Foxconn will provide a $4 return to Wisconsin taxpayers for
every $1 invested.
Foxconn’s investment will further
encourage other companies to invest in our state, attract skilled workers from
out of state to relocate here, and encourage our next generation of workers to
develop skills necessary in the 21st century workforce.
With Wisconn Valley, we are moving Wisconsin forward.
Expanding Wisconsin's Business Relationships in Japan and South Korea
Over the last week, I joined with Wisconsin business
leaders in traveling to Japan and South Korea to foster trade partnerships and
foreign investment in Wisconsin.
We sat down with over 200 business,
government, and academic leaders to tell the story of Wisconsin’s
highly-skilled, dependable workforce, reliable infrastructure, and welcoming
business climate. I also laid a wreath at the Korean War
Memorial (and then showed some school kids where Wisconsin is on my
phone).
Our trade mission has already met with success: the
Wisconsin precision medicine company RPRD Diagnostics and South Korean
biotechnology company Orient Bio Inc. signed a partnership agreement to expand
their products and services into new markets.
Also, the Milwaukee-based Mid-West Energy Research
Consortium (M-WERC) will host ten South Korean tech startups this October for
training and trade partnership.
We are working and winning for Wisconsin.
Visiting Wisconsin's Air National Guard at Kunsan Air Base
To cap off our weeklong trade mission, we
visited Kunsan Air Base in South Korea to meet with Wisconsin’s own 115th
Fighter Wing Airmen of the Air National Guard – the “Wolf Pack.”
Taking the time to see our troops in
action was a major priority. It's important for our Wisconsin guardsmen, our
next generation of great leaders, to know that we support them, are thinking of
them, and that we understand the vital role they fulfill in keeping the world
safe.
We
can’t say thank you enough for the good work our brave men and women in uniform
do every day.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
