Here in Wisconsin, we’ve
always been proud of the fact that we’re national leaders in sectors like
agriculture and dairy production. But our success doesn’t stop there.
Last week, we made a
transformational announcement: Foxconn has decided to open their new facility
right here in Wisconsin.
Their $10 billion
investment will make Wisconsin a world leader in technology and electronics
manufacturing. Just as Silicon Valley transformed the San Francisco Bay Area,
this will transform our state as well. That’s why we’re calling this “Wisconn
Valley.”
The project is going to
create 13,000 jobs and generate $1 billion in economic growth for Wisconsin
suppliers and businesses. The campus itself will be equal to approximately 11
Lambeau Fields. On top of that, this is the largest new greenfield investment made by a foreign based company in
United States history.
This is transformational
for our workforce and our economy. It tells the world that Wisconsin is willing
and ready to work with cutting-edge, high-tech businesses.
The
St. Croix Crossing is open for business!
The
$646 million project was decades in the making, and is finally a reality thanks
to the bipartisan support, leadership, and vision of federal, state, and local
officials in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
This
outstanding bridge, which I call ‘Cooperation,’ is the product of a lot of hard
work and dedication by those who built it and will greatly benefit the
communities it connects: Stillwater, Minnesota and Houlton, Wisconsin.
The
St. Croix Crossing is approximately one mile in length and was built to replace
the 85-year-old Stillwater Lift Bridge. The new crossing is designed to handle
36,000 vehicles a day and allows marine traffic to move beneath it without
interruption.
I
thank Governor Dayton and his team, our team at the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, and those at every level of government who worked on this
project for sharing our commitment to getting this project done.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
