As many of you already
know, I love promoting Wisconsin businesses and celebrating the success of
their owners. You may also know I have a deep appreciation and respect for
those who currently serve in the United States Armed Forces and for our
veterans. This week, I had the chance to combine the two as we celebrated
#WIVetBiz Day throughout the state by unveiling the new Wisconsin Veteran-Owned
Business logo and promoting Wisconsin’s veteran-owned businesses.
The Veteran-Owned
Business logo is really a branding effort by the state of Wisconsin to help make
the public aware of these important businesses – whether that’s a sign in their
window or through the new Veteran-Owned Business directory on the DVA website. We hope that the
people of Wisconsin, in turn, will say “we want to support that veteran-owned
business!”
Did you know we have more than 390,000 veterans living in Wisconsin? And our state is all the
better for it. Wisconsin’s veteran entrepreneurs are creating jobs, hiring
skilled workers, and making our state a great place to live, work, and raise a
family.
The bottom line is we owe
a debt of gratitude to our men and women in uniform, which is why we’re
committed to supporting Wisconsin’s veteran-owned businesses and their owners.
Nothing beats cheese made
in Wisconsin! After all, it is our new official state dairy product (as of June
1st). Did you know that we make over a quarter of the nation’s
cheese and if our state was a country we would rank fourth in the world in
overall cheese production? That’s a lot of cheese!
And we owe it all to our
dedicated cheesemakers, who work hard every day to keep Wisconsin a world
leader in the dairy industry. On Monday, I had the chance to tour the companies
where all the magic happens as part of Dairy Month and Wisconsin Cheese Day.
Wisconsin’s 1,200
licensed cheesemakers and 9,000 dairy farms are doing more than making
award-winning products, however. They’re also creating jobs and helping to
boost Wisconsin’s economy. I’m proud to support our cheese producers as they
continue to grow their businesses and keep Wisconsin #1 when it comes to
cheese.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
