Wisconsin is a great
place to live and work. We have the highest number of people employed in state
history, and our unemployment rate for April is down to 3.2 percent – the lowest
it’s been in Wisconsin since February of 2000. Last month, 7,500 private-sector
jobs were created and we led the nation in significant job gains.
In fact, we rank among the
top ten states in the nation when it comes to:
- Percentage of
adults in our labor force
- ACT scores in
states where all students take the exam
- High School
graduation rates
- Reducing the
overall tax burden (from 2010 to 2014, we outranked 43 other states in this
area)
- Fully-funded
pension systems
- Lowest
outstanding long-term debt
- Access to health
care coverage for citizens
- Health care
systems
- Best places to
do business
Our budget helps build
a strong workforce by investing in student success. We reform welfare to reward
work. And we make government more accountable so we can continue to lower the
tax burden on our hard-working taxpayers.
Earlier this week, we
unveiled the new-and-improved Wisconsin.gov
website. This is our one-stop source for all those who live, visit, and do
business here in our great state.
The redesigned web
portal makes government services more effective and efficient for our
taxpayers. And now, everyone can discover all Wisconsin has to offer in an easy
to navigate, interactive design – even when they’re on the go.
In the wake of devastating storms last week, Rice Lake native Foster Friess stepped up to help his neighbors and community by donating $1 million for a "Challenge Grant," which will go towards a relief fund.
Foster says his family will double every amount sent to Red Cedar Church in Rice Lake. Tax-deductible donations to those affected by the disaster can be made at http://redcedarchurch.com.
Foster saw the devastation firsthand and is donating an incredible amount of personal money to help those in need. My thanks to the Freiss family for their kind generosity. I know those impacted by the storms greatly appreciate this assistance in their time of need.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
