When I was elected by you, the people of Wisconsin, in 2011 and sent to Madison to get our state back on track, one of my top priorities was easing the tax burden. We’ve done that, but our work is far from over.
While we’ve finally moved Wisconsin out of the top ten states for highest property taxes, we cannot stop our work to drive taxes down. That’s why my budget proposal includes key reforms, including eliminating the state portion of the property tax.
But some legislators don’t want to pass our property tax proposal, which would essentially raise the tax burden on hardworking Wisconsin families. This simply doesn’t make sense.
Property tax relief is a priority for us. The million dollar question is….is it a priority for Wisconsin legislators?
If you don’t want your property taxes to increase, I encourage you to call your state Representative and state Senator to tell them what you think. Tell them you want them to eliminate the state property tax because it’s an important part of lasting property tax relief.
I’ve declared this week as both Police Week and Armed Forces Week throughout Wisconsin. While we honor the men and women who protect us from harm every day, I urge you to thank the police officers and active duty members of the armed forces in your life.
We owe these brave men and women a debt of gratitude for their selfless service and remember those who paid the ultimate price for our safety by laying down their lives.
