Happy Cinco de Mayo
Lt. Govenror Kleefisch celebrates Cinco de Mayo with Anselmo Villarreal, President of La Casa de Esperanza Waukesha
It's Cinco de Mayo, a day we in the USA actually celebrate waaay more than our friends in Mexico. (It's a celebration of the Mexican army's victory over French forces in 1862, by the way.) Wisconsin's Mexican immigrants contribute in many ways to our economy and our communities, and they know how to throw a party at La Casa de Esperanza in Waukesha! In about a month, I'll lead a trade delegation to Mexico to further deepen our economic relationships.
Lt. Governor Kleefisch meets with Lithuanian Ambassador to the United States, Rolandas Krisciunas
From Mexico to Lithuania...you know I frequently meet with forgien delegations to further our business, cultural and educational ties. This morning, the Lithuanian Ambassador stopped in before meetings with a Wisconsin defense contractor and a software producer to learn about other Wisconsin companies Lithuania may be interested in working with us. I was happy to share about the value and quality Wisconsin companies offer our worldwide partners!
Lt. Governor Kleefisch at Milwaukee Area Technical College for a CNC graduation
This is the season for graduations, but this week I participated in two special commencements. At the Waukesha County Jail, I joined graduates of the Drug Court program. And at Milwaukee Area Technical College, I applauded 13 men who will exit our correctional system as certified CNC machinists. In both cases our executive budget expands funding--for treatment & diversion alternatives (a recommendation of our opioids report) and job training for offenders--because we believe that short-term investments now will result in long-term savings for taxpayers through these data-driven programs.
Lt. Governor Kleefisch in her office with Lia
This week the State Assembly passed all four bills in the homelessness package with wide bipartisan majorities! These legislative initiatives complement the significant new resources we're investing through the budget to secure additional intensive support for people to get back on their feet. As part of the floor day focus, the Assembly honored Lia from Manitowoc, a teenager who founded a community service outreach to children at the local homeless shelter. It was my joy to welcome her to the Capitol and learn about her life-changing work. As you know, I work hard to fight housing insecurity...I was glad to meet a 13 year-old fellow fighter!

My point in addressing homelessness is not simply about human comfort - it's also about human potential. With housing security you can get a job and companies are growing and creating new jobs at a breakneck pace - about 104,000 open jobs this week on www.jobcenterofwisconsin.com. One of the places with open jobs and off-the-chart growth is Majic Productions, which almost tripled its space at their building opening this week. Majic is a cool audio-visual company that has produced events for Prince, Cool and the Gang, Donald Trump's AND Hillary Clinton's presidential campaigns! Talk about nonpartisan success.
