With Tax Day being yesterday, I wanted to take a moment to
highlight the significant savings Wisconsin taxpayers have seen as a result of
our tough, but prudent, reforms.
Our most recent budget proposal uses the Reform Dividend to
continue lowering the tax burden for you, the hard-working people of our state.
Overall, our budget proposal includes $592.7 million in new tax relief. When
combined with the tax relief enacted since we first took office, Wisconsinites
have seen more than $8 billion in total tax relief over eight years.
Specifically, our budget:
- Ensures property taxes are lower in 2018 than they were
in 2010 – in fact, our budget proposal eliminates the state portion of
your property tax bill.
- Reduces income taxes on a typical family by $130. Over
eight years, the cumulative savings will total $1,542.
- Fully implements the manufacturing and agriculture
production tax credit, and
- Creates a sales tax holiday for back to school clothing
and supplies.
Our state and local tax burdens are the lowest they’ve been
since 1962. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Wisconsin outperformed 43
other states in lowering our tax burden over the last five years.
The bottom line is: we’re continuing to put Wisconsin
taxpayers first.
Canada recently implemented protectionist dairy trade
policies, leaving dozens of Wisconsin dairy farmers without buyers for their milk
production.
This week, I joined New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in writing
a letter to President Donald Trump asking him to address Canada’s trade
policies. When President Trump visited Kenosha yesterday, we discussed this
issue and he agreed to fight for Wisconsin’s dairy farmers. I appreciate the
President’s time and commitment to stand up for our nation’s dairy farmers.
Our dairy industry is second to none and our producers will
continue to thrive, as they have for generations, so long as there is a level
playing field. Canada is our largest trading partner and we want our strong
relationship with them to continue. On this issue, however, we think they are
just plain wrong. We will continue to do everything we can to support and fight
for Wisconsin’s dairy farmers.
Read our letter to President Trump below.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
