HARIBO, the German
confection company known worldwide for their “GoldBear” gummi candies, just
announced they will open their first North American manufacturing facility
right here in Wisconsin.
That’s a $242 million
investment expected to create 400 jobs, making it one of the largest investments in new operations by an oversea company
in Wisconsin history!
This is just more
evidence that our economy and workforce are strong and our reforms are working.
The bottom line is Wisconsin is moving forward. HARIBO recognizes Wisconsin is
a great place to expand and our people, our resources, and our business climate
are all assets.
Together, we will
continue working and winning for Wisconsin.
Our biennial budget
proposal puts more money into K-12 education than ever before in the history of
our state. In fact, the budget I submitted to Wisconsin legislature includes
$11.5 billion for K-12 education. And thanks to our reforms, these dollars will
go where they are most needed – into the classroom to bolster student success.
We’re providing $200
per student in the first year and $204 per student in the second year for every
school district in the state – which represents an increase of $649 million for
all K-12 schools. We’re also increasing support for rural schools, providing
more funds for access to technology in our schools, expanding broadband, and increasing
support for early college credit programs.
Every child deserves
access to a great education – it is a moral imperative. On top of that, it’s an
economic imperative, because a great education gives our students the practical
skills and knowledge they need to choose the career path that’s best for them
and thrive in our workforce.
What I heard in
listening sessions as I traveled throughout the state is that you, the people
of Wisconsin, want us to invest in student success and building a strong
workforce. As we continue to move forward in the budget process, I will fight
for our historic investments in K-12 education and worker training.
If you support our
schools in Wisconsin, I ask that you contact your local lawmaker and encourage
him or her to support the increases for K-12 education included in my budget
plan.
Earlier this week, I
joined Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Ray Allen at Grace
Lutheran Communities – River Pines in Altoona to launch the application period
for up to $3 million in Wisconsin Fast Forward (WFF) worker training grants for
health science, health care, and related occupations.
Targeted investments in
worker training help new and existing health care workers develop the
highly-skilled, dependable workforce Wisconsin is known for. Developing our
workforce to deliver high-quality care throughout the state is crucial as this
sector continues to lead Wisconsin’s economy and nationally.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
