Every student matters in Wisconsin. In addition to the
additional investments I have spoken about for K-12 education in the upcoming
budget, we are proposing specific initiatives to help rural schools.
This week, I traveled to school districts in Wauzeka, Hilbert,
and Crandon to announce new targeted investments in state funding for rural
schools. You see, Wisconsin’s rural schools face a lot of unique issues,
including high transportation costs, lack of dependable access to broadband
internet, and declining enrollment. We don’t want these challenges to affect
the quality of the education our children receive.
Our proposal works to address these hurdles by including greater
funding for sparsity and transportation aids, increases our investment in
broadband and technology grants, and makes it easier for school districts to
recruit and retain teachers.
K-12 education is a top priority for us, and we will continue to
focus on strengthening public schools throughout the state so our future
leaders are equipped with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to move Wisconsin
forward.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday,
February 8 at 4:00 p.m. and tune in for the 2017 Wisconsin Budget Address!
This is my chance to tell you, the people of Wisconsin, about
our top priorities, Wisconsin’s financial outlook, and what important
initiatives and programs we’ll be investing in.
To watch, check your local Wisconsin Public Television
channel. Or, you can live stream the address on my website,
YouTube channel,
or Facebook

We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
