Yesterday, I joined the
Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) in awarding $250,000 in grants
to 42 nonprofit organizations providing financial assistance or other services
to our state’s veterans and their families.
In 2014, I signed this
WDVA nonprofit grant program into law with broad bipartisan support in the
state legislature.
Wisconsin’s veterans
have given so much for our country, and they deserve our wholehearted support
and assistance when they conclude active duty service. The grants awarded to
Wisconsin nonprofits will fund important necessities like emergency financial
assistance, transitional housing, and service dogs for veterans with
disabilities.
Our thanks to all of
Wisconsin’s veterans for their service, as well as to this year’s grant
recipients for their commitment to serving the brave veterans of our state.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 10 at 3:00 p.m. and
tune in for the 2017 Wisconsin State of the State Address.
It’s a chance for me to tell you, the people of Wisconsin,
about the outlook for our state, how our economy is faring, and what you can
expect when it comes to our priorities and initiatives for 2017.
To watch, check your local
Wisconsin Public Television channel. Or, you can live stream the address from
my website or YouTube channel.
As part of our larger
effort to make government services more effective and efficient for taxpayers
and businesses in Wisconsin, the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI)
announced last week that they will be utilizing the One Stop Business Portal
for certain annual reports beginning in January.
Our ultimate goal is to
streamline interaction between Wisconsin businesses, startups, existing
companies, and state agencies. So far, the Department of Workforce
Development (DWD) and Department of Revenue (DOR) have services available through
the One Stop Business Portal, and eventually, other agencies that serve
Wisconsin businesses will offer their services through the portal as well.
Once this transition is
complete, Wisconsin business owners will be able to conduct all of their
business with multiple state agencies in one convenient location.
Check out the One Stop
Business Portal here, and learn
more about the services DFI will offer through the Portal below.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
