Governor Walker and participants at listening session in Neillsville, Wisconsin.
With the New Year quickly approaching, this is the perfect
opportunity for us to reflect on 2016 and look forward to all that 2017 has in
store for the state of Wisconsin.
Today, Wisconsin’s economy is in the best shape it’s been in
15 years.
Here are just a few highlights:
- More people are employed in our state than ever before.
- At 4.1 percent, the unemployment rate is half of what
it was when we first took office.
- Our reforms have transformed our rainy day fund and it’s 165
times larger than it was when we first took office.
- Wisconsin ranks fourth best in the country when it
comes to the lowest long-term obligations.
- We provided the hardworking citizens of Wisconsin $4.7
billion in total tax relief.
In 2016, I traveled to all 72 counties and heard directly
from the people about where our state should be headed. With the feedback from
these listening sessions, we’re poised to continue investing in areas citizens
consider to be top priorities for our state.
Our focus this upcoming year will be on further investments
in K-12 education, developing Wisconsin’s workforce, expanding our broadband
infrastructure for rural areas, and moving people from government dependence to
true independence through the dignity that comes from work.
The future of our state is bright, and we look forward to
continuing to move Wisconsin forward. As 2017 approaches, Tonette, Matt, Alex,
and I wish you and your family a blessed, happy, and healthy New Year.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
