As the 9-day gun
deer hunt has come and gone, we’d like to thank those who hunted in Wisconsin
for another successful season.
There are still plenty
of opportunities to continue your hunt, though! The muzzleloader and farmland antlerless
seasons are coming up, and the archery and crossbow seasons are still in full
swing. You can pick up your license at http://gowild.wi.gov.
Thanks again to those
who participated in this time-honored Wisconsin tradition, and we hope to see
everyone again next year!
On Sunday, we invited the citizens of Wisconsin to join us as we lit the
beautiful Christmas tree at the Executive Residence.
It was wonderful to see so many Wisconsinites joining together in the
spirit of the season. We hope everyone also has the chance to participate in
one of the holiday tours offered at the Executive Residence, which gives
visitors the chance to view the beautiful decorations and festive scenery on
display.

Whenever I travel around the state during the holiday season, I see a flurry of activity in downtown business districts in communities, large and small. Downtown groups throughout Wisconsin and the businesses they represent are hosting hundreds of family-oriented holiday events aimed at attracting shoppers and encouraging them to patronize local stores, many of which are small, family-owned businesses.
The uptick in sales during this time of the year is welcome news for the small downtown merchants who are a critical part of Wisconsin's economy and play a vital role in making our hometowns special. However, it's also important to ensure our downtown districts are thriving throughout the year, and that takes a commitment from residents, merchants, and local officials.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) also plays a role in that effort through its two downtown development initiatives: the Main Street and Connect Communities programs. More than 90 communities in every corner of the state are participating in these programs, which provide expertise, training, and resources to downtown groups to increase interaction, recreation, and commerce in these shared spaces.
We enjoy sharing all the great news about our state with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the people of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
