Wisconsin is working.
In fact, more people are employed this year than at any time in the history of
our state. That goes back all the way to 1848!
Our unemployment rate
is at a 15 year low – nearly half of what it was when we first took office. The
percentage of people working in Wisconsin is also one of the highest in the
country.
On top of that, we made
it more affordable to live in Wisconsin.
Since 2011, we’ve
provided nearly $5 billion in tax relief. Both property and income taxes are
lower today than they were six years ago. And, we froze tuition at all
University of Wisconsin campuses for four years in a row.
This is great news for
you, the people of our great state. But, we know there is more work to be done.
We need an accountable government that puts taxpayers first and puts an end to
one-size-fits-all Washington mandates.
We need to focus on
student success by developing a career path for everyone and by making it even
more affordable to get a great education in Wisconsin.
We’re also going to put
forth common-sense reforms that reward work by eliminating the barriers that
stand between good people and good jobs. This is extremely important, because
true freedom and prosperity don’t come from the clumsy hand of the government –
they come from empowering people to live their own lives and pursue their own
destinies through the dignity that comes from work.
This past year, I
traveled to all 72 Wisconsin counties to hear directly from people about what
they expect out of their state government. I’ve heard firsthand what
investments you want to keep Wisconsin strong.
As we prepare the
budget between now and next February, make sure you check out our website, www.walker.wi.gov, or follow my twitter account, @GovWalker, to find out what our administration is doing about accountable
government, student success, and rewarding work.
I look forward to
hearing from you as we continue to build a better Wisconsin.
