A major focus of the
Wisconsin State Fair is our strong agriculture industry. This week, we had the
chance to highlight agriculture in our state while also supporting the future
of farming in Wisconsin.
Yesterday, I hosted the
25th Annual Governor’s Blue Ribbon Meat Products Auction, which
directly benefits Wisconsin’s 4-H Foundation and 4-H youth.
4-H provides Wisconsin
youth with real-world skills to help prepare them for challenges they’ll face
in the future. The Foundation sponsors numerous development programs, helps
fund attendance at national competitions and conferences, and provides college
grants and scholarships that help 4-H youth continue their education after high
school.

Tonight, I will host
the 48th Annual Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction, which
supports Wisconsin State Fair Junior Exhibitors.
It’s a win-win for
everyone involved – the auction allows individuals and businesses to bid on
champion animals and supports Wisconsin’s youth who are passionate about
Wisconsin agriculture.
This year, the Blue
Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation is contributing more than $60,000 for scholarships
and other youth programs. All proceeds from the auction will be used to
increase the 2017 Scholarship Fund and ultimately encourage our youth to pursue
their career aspirations.
These are just two of
the fun events occurring at the Wisconsin State Fair this week. Make sure to
schedule your trip to the State Fair before it concludes this Sunday, August
14. To learn more about the entertainment, attractions, and of course, food

Today, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit made the decision to stay the injunction issued by Judge Adelman regarding
Wisconsin's
voter identification law. This injunction would have allowed voters to sign an affidavit at the polls
rather than obtaining a free photo ID available at DMVs across the state.
We think voter IDs are a reasonable measure to protect Wisconsin voters against cheating and make sure every vote counts.
Today's decision to halt the injunction issued by Judge Adelman is a step in the right direction and recognizes that his ruling is likely to be reversed in light of Supreme Court precedent and would create more uncertainty for voters.
The people of Wisconsin support voter ID, and our administration will continue to work to make it easy to vote and difficult to cheat.

The Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proud to partner with Camp Hometown
Heroes, an organization serving children who have lost a loved one who served
in the United States military by providing counseling, volunteer opportunities,
and a healing community.
Each summer, Camp
Hometown Heroes hosts week-long camp sessions and other healing programs for
children ages seven to seventeen.
This year, the
organization, with the help of thousands of donors, hosted two free week-long
camping sessions at one of Wisconsin’s beautiful state parks.

Children representing
28 different states enjoyed typical summer camp activities such as swimming,
dance, arts and crafts, archery, drama, canoeing, fishing, and climbing. On top
of these fun activities, Camp Hometown Heroes provides a safe, supportive
environment for the kids to share their stories and help in their healing
process.
The DNR is proud to
partner with this incredible organization to help the children who lost a loved
one in service to our country have a great summer camp experience.
