Warbirds Alight
I spent the day in Rock
County Thursday, talking with the Beloit Chamber of Commerce, checking out
Irontek, a hip co-working space/business incubator, and visiting Beloit Public
Schools to hear about the collaboration and compassion they use to help
homeless students get to graduation day.
But there are few
moments to compare with watching a B-17 roar out of the sky, carrying its
original guns and a payload of WWII veterans! As part of Janesville's Heavy
Bomber Weekend, restored warplanes flew the heroes who once fought on them. I
was honored to re-welcome home those veterans whose service took them far from
Wisconsin to fight for freedom. 332,200 Wisconsinites served in WWII. That's
the equivalent of roughly all of Madison, New Richmond, Wausau, Oconomowoc and
Neenah. 8,149 died.

While I was away...
 I'm
not going to insult your intelligence and pretend I wasn't in Cleveland for the
first part of the week. But I also won't insult your effort to put leaders in
place who believe in getting you a value for your tax dollar. That's why I got
a kick out of this, from the Washington Examiner, covering some remarks I made
at a tax reform meeting:
'Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca
Kleefisch then spoke about her work with the Republican Lieutenant Governors
Association, which she chairs. (Side note: I walked out of the building right
after Kleefisch, who stopped to pick a nickel off the ground. My first thought
was "Wow, the RLGA must really be hurting for money," but Kleefisch
wondered aloud how, with all these fiscal conservatives around, no one had yet
picked it up.)"
My friends, when it is a
national news story when I bend down to pick up a nickel, our federal
government had better get working harder at pinching your pennies.
In the meantime, we'll
continue to work here at home to give you effective, efficient service for a
value. (and I will continue to bend down to pick up pocket change.)

Forward,
 Rebecca Kleefisch Lt. Governor
