Trade Mission to Mexico
This week, I’m in Mexico
leading a business development mission intended to build and strengthen
business ties and attract companies, operations, and investments that are a
good fit for our key industries.
I’m joined by representatives
from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Department
of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Together, we have the
opportunity to sit down with government officials, business representatives,
and agriculture leaders in Mexico to discuss opportunities to establish or grow
ventures in Wisconsin.
Mexico is our second-largest
export destination with Wisconsin’s exports to Mexico totaling nearly $3
billion in 2015. It is also Wisconsin’s second most valuable agricultural
export market, importing over $290 million in ag-related products in 2015.
Our mission includes stops in
Mexico City, Xochimilco, and Guadalajara as we work to strengthen trade and
investment ties between Wisconsin and Mexico. Throughout our trip, we’ve had
the opportunity to meet with Mexican government agencies and leaders, as well
as businesses and companies.
|
We also had the chance to tour Quad/Graphics, a
Wisconsin-based company that has grown to become a global leader. Their
operations there serve the market in Mexico and throughout Latin America -
which is good for business in Wisconsin.
As part of the trip, we are also
joining DATCP Secretary Ben Brancel, Wisconsin businesses, and representatives
from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the University of
Wisconsin-Madison at the CIGAL Dairy Trade Show.
This show is a big deal in the
dairy world, attracting exhibitors from throughout Mexico and the United
States, and focuses on the dairy production sector.
|
The dairy trade show opening ceremony is tonight in Jalisco, Mexico, which has been our sister state since 1990. While there, we also plan to meet with Jalisco Governor Aristóteles Sandoval to explain how we’re moving Wisconsin forward and why this is a great time for businesses in Mexico to consider investing in our state.
Our top priority during this
business development mission is highlighting Wisconsin’s strong business
climate, skilled workforce, and key industry sectors as compelling assets for
successful business operations in our state.
We live in a global economy,
and our work to build relationships in Mexico and around the world ultimately
leads to more good jobs and a stronger economy right here at home in Wisconsin.

It has been a pleasure communicating with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the residents of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Governor Scott Walker
