TO: County and Tribal Veterans Service Offices
SUBJECT: Recently Separated Veteran Data for CVSOs/TVSOs
Secretary Bond is pleased to announce that the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) will provide monthly lists of transitioning service members to the County and Tribal Veterans Service Officers, beginning February 3, 2025. The average number of service members identifying Wisconsin as their home upon discharge ranges between 150-300 personnel per month.
The WDVA entered into an Agreement with the DOD to secure this data each month. WDVA also secured permission to share this information with CVSOs/TVSOs. The monthly list that will be provided to your offices includes the contact information for transitioning service members who have identified a Wisconsin address as their current or next residence. If the service member voluntarily provided their telephone number and/or e-mail address, that information will also be provided to your offices.
To ensure veteran privacy, the lists will only be provided to the organizational e-mail addresses already registered with the WDVA. The list includes general contact information but does not include sensitive personal identifying information such as Social Security numbers or discharge information. The Memorandum of Agreement enables WDVA to share the information with CVSO/TVSO offices but does not authorize any further or subsequent dissemination.
Your offices will receive the lists for each month at the beginning of the next month, as the federal systems are typically updated mid-month. For example, you may expect the lists for DEC-24 and JAN-25 on or about February 3, 2025, and the list for FEB-25 on or about March 3, 2025. This information may be used to conduct outreach and provide services. The initial lists will be the statewide list with the veteran’s address but is not subdivided into counties or tribes. The WDVA is working to refine this delivery process so that future notifications can be provided via the Veterans Benefits Application Tracking System (VBATS), with lists subdivided by geographic location.
We are pleased to share the information regarding our recently separated veterans with our County and Tribal colleagues, and please contact us at WDVAHelpNow@dva.wisconsin.gov if you have any questions. Together, we can ensure that our newest veterans are welcomed to Wisconsin and provided with high-quality, cohesive services and benefits. Thank you for your service to Wisconsin’s veterans.
