Governor Evers' Budget Address

Governor Evers: Investing in Wisconsin Veterans

Governor Tony Evers has laid out his budget plan for the next two years, proposing more than $30,900,000 in state funds to support veterans benefits, programs, and services.

His budget includes the largest single infusion of general funds into the Veterans Trust Fund by any governor. It funds mental health and suicide prevention, increases veteran service officer grants to counties and tribes, includes funding for the University of Wisconsin's Missing in Action Recovery and Identification Project, and more. Building a Family Legacy, Blazing Her Own Path

Carolyn Morgan

Madison's first African American female Veterans of Foreign Wars post commander is a trailblazer who also shares a tradition of service in the U.S. Air Force with her father and son.

In 1985, she started active duty and was sent to her first duty station in Misawa, Japan, then later to Sumter, South Carolina. She says she faced discrimination both as a woman and – like her father – as a person of color.

“My dad was in the service when there was still segregation; the barracks were still segregated. And for me, at the time, women couldn’t serve in the Security Forces. Now women can be in most of the jobs that are out there, where we couldn’t be before. It’s evolving, it’s getting better, but we’re still looking at a lot of firsts.” Read Carolyn Morgan's story.

Get Your COVID Vaccine to Protect WI Veterans

One million people in Wisconsin have received a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 250,000 have received both doses of the vaccine. As the number of those receiving vaccinations continues to grow, coronavirus cases and deaths continue to fall.

Every person who gets vaccinated helps us to bring an end this pandemic and protects the vulnerable population that we serve at our Wisconsin Veterans Homes. We encourage you to check with your health care provider to learn how you can be vaccinated in your community.

We are pleased to report that all three of the Wisconsin Veterans Homes have already conducted at least two vaccine clinics for members and staff. We are grateful for the opportunity to roll up our sleeves for this important vaccine!

Sign up for DHS' weekly email to receive timely information about vaccine eligibility and other resources, or visit the COVID-19 vaccine webpage. If you receive healthcare from the VA, find information about VA vaccinations, and sign up for updates, here.
