New federal data shows that the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs’ (WDVA) three Veterans Homes have the highest staff rating in the nation. The report, published by Kaiser Health News,found that the WDVA's 24-hour skilled nursing facilities at King, Chippewa Falls and Union Grove all perform “much above” the national average for its staff rating compared to more than 14,000 other nursing homes across the nation. Staff members in the report include registered nurses, practical nurses and nursing assistants.
In November, the U.S. News and World Report rated four Wisconsin Veterans Homes, including three at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, as Best Nursing Homes in its 2017-18 Nursing Home Finder. Only 15% of nursing homes nationwide achieved this designation.
The WDVA also recently announced that it is investing $104 million in the future of its top-rated Veterans Home at King. Projects include $80 million for a new, state-of-the-art nursing facility on the campus, $18 million in general projects and $6 million on a renovation project at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wisconsin’s first state Veterans cemetery which opened 130 years ago...Read more »

Secretary Zimmerman visited Camp American Legion in Tomahawk to present a $71,432 grant check to Camp Director Don Grundy and Camp Committee Chairman Mike Bert. The funds will be used to help with the operation costs of the camp.
