Every year after enduring months of subzero temperatures and
digging out from several feet of snow, the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial
Cemetery undergoes a special transformation. What once was a scenic winter
landscape in the northern part of the state buds into a breathtaking site that honors
military Veterans and their families.
Once the ground is finally thawed,a special group
of volunteers visits the cemetery. The Spooner Garden Club, which has about 25
members, was formed in 1932 and has been a staple in the Spooner community ever

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans
Affairs (WDVA) today announced Memorial Day observances at the state's three
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemeteries.
As we honor those who served and made
the ultimate sacrifice, our Memorial Day ceremonies also
commemorate the centennial of the final year of World War I.
Ceremonies

The WDVA took part in the Bucky on Parade unveiling on May 7 at its Wisconsin Veterans Museum.
The life-sized Bucky statues are part of a free public art event, with 85 of them standing across Dane County. They will be on display until September 12 at numerous locations around the county.
The statue at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, located in its gift shop, is sponsored by TDS Telecom and was designed by the Madison Vet Center/VSA Wisconsin. The unique design of the “Full Fatigues” statue features a collage of every branch of the military since the Vietnam War. The artists (pictured above) used material from actual uniforms and adhered it with glue and sewing.
