Meet a Woman Veteran Business Owner

Maria Kovach, Simply Stated Interiors

Last month, we kicked off a new feature of this newsletter highlighting woman veteran business owners. Our goal is to highlight the women veterans in our community and support their businesses when possible.

Our inaugural video featured Jessica Dragan, Army veteran and owner of Spa Massage on the Go

Our second video introduces you to Maria Kovach, owner of Simply Stated Interiors. Maria is an Air Force veteran who served in Command and Control for four years active duty and 5 years in the Air National Guard. After her time in the Air Force, Maria went back to school for interior design and following in the footsteps of her grandparents, started her own business.

"We are resilient as veteran women...no doubt about that. And if you have a passion for something and you have a desire to go into business, then follow that dream and follow that passion. You will fall down and you will get up and you will make it work and you will figure it out. It always works out in the end." - Maria Kovach

The Women Veterans Program is continually looking for women veteran business owners. In addition to networking with each other, we can share your story and information about your business with the greater veteran community in Wisconsin. Interested in joining our network? Email us today!

New Grant Opportunities

The State of Wisconsin works to connect veterans with good, family-supporting jobs. To that end, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs has announced two new grant opportunities

Grant applications are now being accepted from registered 501(c)(3)  or 501(c)(6) non-profit organizations that provide entrepreneurship training, or technical, business or other assistance to veteran entrepreneurs to improve employment outcomes. The Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Grant includes a maximum total of up to $400,000 during the period of July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017. The deadline to apply for this grant is February 10, 2017.

Application materials for this grant are available online. Applications and questions about the grant application process should be directed to Chad McCafferty at 1-800-WIS-VETS or via email.

Also, in an effort to help support employers who hire veterans, the WDVA has now made available the Veteran Employment Grant for employers who hire veterans whom have a service-connected Federal VA disability rating of at least 50% on the hire date. Employers can receive up to $5,000 in funding when they hire a qualifying Veteran full-time and up to $2,500 for part-time. Learn more about this grant program now!
