Grant Application Period Open for Nonprofits that Serve Veterans, Families

Applications Due by October 31, 2016

MADISON — Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary John A. Scocos announced today that the Department will begin accepting applications for grants up to $25,000 from registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that provide financial assistance or other services to Wisconsin veterans and their families. Non-profits interested in applying for this onetime grant opportunity must submit their completed applications by October 31, 2016.

“The veterans community is best served when all veterans organizations work together to provide the best possible services to veterans and their families,” Secretary Scocos said. “We look forward to again partnering with organizations that ensure that our nation’s heroes have access to the services they need.”

The Nonprofit Grant program was passed by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Walker on April 6, 2014 and includes a maximum total of $250,000 during the period of July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017.  In January 2015, Governor Scott Walker awarded the first round of grants totaling $250,000 to 25 non-profit organizations.
The following criteria will be evaluated as part of the grant application:

  • Background and organizational history
  • Organizational qualifications and past performances
  • Experience working with veterans and their families
  • Need for grant funding
  • Outreach and screening plan
  • Program implementation timeline
  • Monitoring and program evaluation
  • Program goals and objectives
  • Past working relationships with Veterans Service Organizations
  • Integration of outreach and employment services
