Department of Safety and Professional Services Issues Statement on Rulemaking
The Department of Safety and Professional Services has been
engaged in rulemaking to update Wis. Admin. Code chapters 361 to 366, the
Wisconsin Commercial Building Code. As part of
this process, a review of the current fire sprinkler rules for multifamily
dwellings was completed and feedback from stakeholders received. Stakeholder
feedback called into question the enforceability of current fire sprinkler
rules due to them being potentially more restrictive than allowed by statute. The
Department takes these concerns seriously and has requested a formal attorney
general’s opinion.
