In Wisconsin, homeless minors on their own cannot consent to basic medically necessary care to treat even routine health conditions. Wisconsin legislators are working to pass SB70/AB49. This bipartisan legislation would allow homeless youth on their own the ability to consent to their own medically necessary health care and treatment. It would allow unaccompanied homeless youth 14-17 years old–as documented by homeless liaisons and other educators, and homeless youth service and shelter providers– to access routine care when needed. It also provides clarity for health care providers. If you would like to voice your support for this legislation you can find your local representatives here. |
